It’s no secret that we as a civilization get more advanced every day. Board games turned into video games and video games turned into learning tools. That’s right. Video games are becoming a basis for learning. I will explain how so in the four categories listed below.
Military
The military is also an example of change and advancements in technology. Their arsenal is constantly getting upgraded. They also began using videos games to help recruit, train and help cure soldiers of mental illnesses that could have been caused by the war such as PTSD. They realized that video game could be a source for learning and training troops. They used video games to train troops about how combat is on the field. Governments spent tons of money to fund simulations for the military to use. They also used the simulations of Afghanistan to treat patients with PTSD. This helped them confront their trauma and get better.
Child education
When it comes to children, many people believe video games can dull the child’s mind and even cause violent tendencies. Of course, that is definitely false. Videogames can contribute to children’s knowledge by helping them learn to count, read, write, etc. some examples are the leapfrog systems that help children learn to do math and read. These games also teach kids to problem solve and communicate with others effectively. Aside from educational games, children can learn morals and themes from interactive story games. These kinds of video games benefit the child as he/she learns social and mental skills for the rest of their lives.
Adult education
Video games for adults work the same way as they do for children. They teach them fundamentals of any topic through the seemingly fun entertainment of videogames. Except as adults, they can learn more and delve into specific topics such as psychology or economy. There are even games that teach people to type. Giving a person with no typing skills the ability to type better. These games can help them to learn different languages. This benefits the person as they can get more jobs by being bilingual.
Medical field
This is an exciting one. Video games helping the medical profession is amazing. I went into it a bit in the military section on how they use video games to treat patients with PTSD. However, it goes way beyond that. With simulators, surgeons can practice how to operate. They can learn how to deal with patients with all sorts of symptoms. They can even use virtual reality. With virtual reality, they can explore the mind and body and see how it is from the inside. This can give valuable insight that could help doctors diagnose patients and learn more about the human body and diseases that infect it. This shows that video games aren’t just for entertainment but can actually teach us and improve our daily life.
