Arcade gaming! Would you believe it’s a competitive sport? Well believe it champ! Walter Day of Twin Galaxies made the games competitive and this led to the rise of Billy Mitchell. Billy Mitchell became known for his high score in Donkey Kong junior. Billy Mitchell now has his own hot sauce brand and chicken wing recipe and works with a former competitor, Steve Sanders. It seemed as though for a while, no one could beat Billy Mitchell's score in donkey Kong junior. However, out of the blue, a new challenger approached! STEVE WIEBE! Steve Wiebe is a very talented man who is athletic and can play the rums and piano very well. He strived to success and wanted to prove himself to everyone. After much practice he finally beat Billy Mitchells score but was accused of having a rigged DK junior Cabinet so he had to get the score publicly. Once he had done so, Billy Mitchell had sent in a very shady looking tape to the refs and its played a sketchy looking tape of Billy hitting the kill screen. That score was in the 1 million range and for a time was the official highest score for Donkey Kong junior. Then, in august 3rd, 2007, Steve Wiebe beat Billy Mitchell! Wow! That was the basis of the documentary but was only a point the documentary was trying to make. This documentary showed us that arcade gaming was as big of a sport as any other sport. This was the birth of competitive gaming in general. While I’m not sure there’s any arcade gaming competitions, there’s other like the League of Legends tournament, Super Smash Bros tournament, Mortal Kombat tournaments’, etc. it was the idea that Walter Day had that sparked the movement of competitive gaming. Super!
